What is SEO?

Search Paradigms
Over the last 30 years, search has evolved through several key paradigms.
The first paradigm, which defined the early decade of search, focused mainly on the relevance of a query to a webpage. While this approach worked initially, it was easy to manipulate with spam, making it difficult to prioritize accurate results. Users often had to scroll through 5–10 pages of listings before finding a suitable website.
The second paradigm, emerging in the following decade, introduced backlinks as a way to establish authority in search results. Led by Google and its PageRank algorithm, search engines began treating backlinks as votes of confidence for web pages, elevating the importance of some sites over others.
